1962 Legnano Short Sleeves Cycling Kits

1962 Legnano Short Sleeves Cycling Kits

This cycling jersey is the vintage-styled race kit of Legnano‑Pirelli professional cycling team, this legendary Italian squad was active from 1906 to 1966.
  1. Era & Background Story

Design Origin & Timeline: Legnano competed in the Giro d’Italia and major European classics for more than six decades. This jersey represents the team’s racing livery from the mid‑20th century, with Pirelli as the key tyre partner.

Cycling Culture Behind The Design: Legnano was one of the most iconic names in Italian road cycling history. The partnership between bicycle maker Legnano and tyre manufacturer Pirelli helped define the identity of the team, and its simple green‑and‑white blocks became recognisable in early grand tour photography and race reports.

  2. Key Design Elements

Visual Theme: Bright white base with wide horizontal green stripes on the torso. The collar and short sleeve cuffs are trimmed in bold red, creating a clean but distinctive mid‑century Italian race look.

Brand Markings: Large black “LEGNANO” lettering dominates the chest stripe, while the classic “PIRELLI” logo appears directly below it. Smaller “LEGNANO” text is also visible on the sleeve ends.

Technical Features: Full‑length centre‑front zipper, classic short‑sleeve race cut, and a finished hem with binding. The overall construction reflects the functional, no‑frills aesthetic of mid‑century road racing apparel.

  3. Related Riders & Iconic Achievements

Alfredo Binda: Multiple Giro d’Italia winner and world road race champion, who became one of the biggest stars of 1920s and 1930s cycling during his long career with Legnano.

Fausto Coppi: Won the 1940 Giro d’Italia with Legnano, in what was one of the defining early results of a career that would make him one of the greatest Italian riders of all time.
