1974 Jobo Short Sleeves Cycling Kits

1974 Jobo Short Sleeves Cycling Kits

This cycling jersey is the vintage-styled race kit of the Jobo–Wolber professional cycling team, this French squad was active through the late 1970s.

1. Era & Background Story

  ● Design Origin & Timeline: Jobo–Wolber was a French professional cycling team racing in the late 1970s. Jobo served as the title sponsor, paired with Wolber, the famous French tyre manufacturer, as co-sponsor. The squad competed in the Tour de France and a wide selection of French and European stage races and one-day classics.
  ● Cycling Culture Behind The Design: Bold block colour segmentation was a favoured design style for French professional cycling kits of the late 1970s. The striking orange and white split layout ensured sponsor logos stood out clearly while riding, showcasing the clean, high-contrast retro aesthetic typical of French race jerseys of this period.

2. Key Design Elements

  ● Visual Theme: Two-tone orange and white segmented jersey. White panel covers the upper chest and torso, transitioning to orange on the shoulders, sleeves and lower abdomen. Thin white horizontal lines divide the orange lower section. The crew collar matches the white of the chest panel, with a full-length centre zipper.
  ● Brand Markings: Large black outlined "JOBO" logo sits prominently on the upper chest, with bold black "WOLBER" lettering printed underneath. Partial "JOBO" branding appears on the white cuff band of each short sleeve.
  ● Technical Features: Full-length centre-front zipper, classic short-sleeve race cut, lightweight breathable mesh fabric, finished hem with gripper binding, built for professional road racing performance.

3. Related Riders & Iconic Achievements

  ● Bernard Hinault: Legendary French cyclist who raced against the Jobo–Wolber team, five-time Tour de France winner and one of the greatest riders in cycling history.
  ● Jean-René Bernaudeau: French pro cyclist active in the late 1970s, renowned for strong climbing ability and stage race results in the Grand Tours.
