1975 Peugeot Yellow Short Sleeves Cycling Kits

1975 Peugeot Yellow Short Sleeves Cycling Kits

This cycling jersey is the vintage-styled race kit of the Peugeot professional cycling team, this legendary French squad was one of the longest-running and most famous teams in cycling history.

1. Era & Background Story
● Design Origin & Timeline: Peugeot began sponsoring professional cycling teams in 1901 and remained in the peloton through 1986 — over eight decades. The late 1970s and early 1980s iteration, Peugeot–Esso–Michelin, was one of the strongest French squads of the era, regularly competing in the Tour de France, Giro d'Italia and all the classic races. This bright yellow colourway was one of the team's alternate kit designs of that period.
● Cycling Culture Behind The Design: Peugeot's blue team is the most famous, but the French squad also raced in yellow kits. The simple, single-colour design with bold black sans-serif lettering was characteristic of late 1970s French race apparel — clean, direct, and built for maximum sponsor visibility on TV and in photographs.

2. Key Design Elements
● Visual Theme: A single, eye-catching bright yellow body covering the entire torso and sleeves, with no stripes or paneling. Sleeves are finished with thin contrast stitching at the cuffs. The hem is black with a white dotted gripper band, and the collar matches the yellow body with a thin trim line.
● Brand Markings: Across the centre chest, "PEUGEOT" appears in large bold black capitals with "MICHELIN" directly beneath in smaller black lettering. The "MIKO" logo sits in a white-outlined box on the left chest, and a cursive script mark appears on the right chest.
● Technical Features: Full-length centre-front zipper, classic short-sleeve race cut, and a finished hem with gripper binding. The construction reflects the straightforward, functional race apparel of late 1970s and early 1980s professional cycling.

3. Related Riders & Iconic Achievements
● Phil Anderson: Australian rider who turned professional with Peugeot in 1980. He finished 5th overall in the 1982 Tour de France while taking the young rider classification, and was one of the first English-speaking riders to truly compete at the General Classification level in the Tour.
● Robert Millar: Scottish pure climber who rode for Peugeot from 1980. He won the prestigious mountains classification at the 1984 Tour de France in Peugeot colours, and was one of the most talented GC climbers of his generation.
